Meet the Staff

Jake Poetzl

Senior Pastor

Jake Poetzl became the Senior Pastor of Klamath Christian Center on March 16, 2025. He and his wife Rachael met in Eugene Oregon while serving at Eugene Faith Center.  They have been married since 1999. Jake holds a Masters degreesin Education and share a deep passion for investing in the next generation.

Jake has served in a variety of pastoral roles throughout his ministry, including children’s pastor, and most recently spent ten years as Senior Pastor of Hillwood Foursquare Church in Shoreline, Washington.

He and Rachael have four wonderful children—Clara, Amelia, Henry, and Jack. In his free time, Jake enjoys fly fishing, camping, and construction projects, and he especially values time spent with his family.

Rachael Poetzl

Women's Director

Rachael Poetzl serves faithfully alongside her husband, Jake, at Klamath Christian Center, where she leads the Women’s Ministry and supports a variety of other ministries within the church. Professionally, she works as a Reading Tutor for Klamath County Schools.

Rachael met Jake during her time at University of Oregon, while serving at Faith Center's College Ministry House.  She holds a Master’s degree in Education and is passionate about encouraging others and helping the next generation thrive.

Rachael loves reading, spending time outdoors, and connecting with people. Above all, she treasures time with her four children—Clara, Amelia, Henry, and Jack.

Kelly Slater

Men’s, Care and Prayer Pastor

Kelly and his wife Mary pastored a Foursquare church in Santa Rosa California from 1995 to 2020. Early in that pastoral assignment Kelly was bi-vocational, working both as Pastor and full-time firefighter. In 2009, Kelly retired from a 28 year fire service career and continued pastoring the Santa Rosa foursquare church until 2020. Kelly and Mary moved to Klamath Falls and began attending Klamath Christian Center. In 2022 Kelly was hired as Pastor of our Men's Ministry and our Prayer and Care ministries. 

Kelly and Mary have three adult children and enjoy time with their grandchildren.

Kayla McPherson

Kids Director

Kayla joined our staff as the kids ministry director in spring of 2025. She and her family first came to KCC in 2016. Kayla has worked as an elementary music teacher in public schools for 14 years. She has built a total of twelve elementary school programs. She has also had the role of district coordinator in both Iowa and Klamath Falls. Kayla majored in vocal performance and toured with her college choir internationally. She has been using her gift of music by serving on the worship team at KCC since 2017. She has also been involved in Women's conferences here at KCC.

Kayla is married to her husband Chris. They have two children, Jasper and Sage. She continues to live out her goal of saying yes to God's plan and serving him.

Cody Burkett 

Youth Ministry Director

Cody Burkett joined our staff full time in October of 2023 as the youth ministry director. He and his wife Rachel first came to KCC in 2016 when he was stationed at Kingsley Field. He served in the United States Air Force and Oregon Air National Guard for over 12 years. Cody and Rachel have been married since 2009. They are originally from Charlotte, North Carolina and have made Klamath Falls their home.  Cody and Rachel have served in youth ministry all over the world  in various capacities and have loved every minute of it.

Cody and Rachel are adventure-loving extroverts and love being with people. When he can, Cody enjoys snowboarding, backpacking, fishing and working on his Jeep. 

Philip Perkins

Discipleship Pastor

At KCC, Philip oversees small groups, discipleship classes, and water baptisms. He has called KCC home since 2013 when he moved to Klamath Falls to attend Oregon Tech. After working for several years in engineering, he completed a seminary degree and joined staff full-time in 2022 .

Philip is adventurous and caring and always loves to learn something new. He is passionate about helping people learn to hear the voice of God and connect in life-giving community. Some of Philip's favorite hobbies are hiking, woodworking, and playing music.

Cheryl Moe

Secretary

Cheryl Moe is our receptionist and administrative professional. She has been a member of KCC since 1990 and worked for 11 years in children's ministry. She has 20 years experience directing daycare and preschools and coaching sports. She and her husband Ron have two daughters.

Cheryl has a huge heart for the poor and enjoys managing our benevolence ministry. She loves volunteering. 

Helen Pryor

Bookkeeper

Helen is our bookkeeper and leads our 55 Alive ministry. She was born in Klamath Falls and started keeping the books at KCC in 2012 after more than 30 years experience in bookkeeping for a local business. She has one son and two daughters, six grandkids, and seven great-grandchildren.

Helen wants everyone to know that it is never too late to get saved! Her husband was 72 years old when he was baptized and they enjoyed over 48 years of marriage. 

Steve Long

Maintenance Manager

Steve joined the staff in Spring 2025 to manage maintenance of our facilities.

Kadence Downing 

Admin Support

Kadence joined the team in June of 2025 and is in charge of the website, scheduling for worship team, and running youth social medias and worship team. 

Ben Whitman 

Tech Director 

Ben has been apart of this team since 2022. He has been updating sound equipment and all new technologies for worship and tech.
